The northeast of Cambodia is relatively unexplored area and therefore enjoys a special charm. The great forests, where a group of 40 people are hidden by the Khmer Rouge for 25 years up to 7 years ago, are the contours of tribal villages, rivers waterfalls that descend from sconoscute sources show and hide mysterious traditions which go deep into the night of the time and have no equal anywhere else in the world. Here there are no monuments built by man, here nature is master of himself !!!
KRACJIE is the province of the dolphins !!! Despite being more than 600 km from the sea, Kracjie is famous for being "the location in which there are more river dolphins than anywhere else in the world ..". So the town was described in the colonial period. Today, unfortunately, it is no longer the case and there are about only 200 individuals, whereas during the period of the Khmer Rouge, during the famine, the Cambodians have not only learned to eat spiders, but unfortunately, even dolphins.
In colonial times was the provincial capital of the north of the country and traces of this glorious past can be seen everywhere in the form of roads, river banks, buildings of rubber lords and markets with all the goods that remind us of the emporiums of the recent past in Europe. Many traditional houses recall the ancient Khmer welfare of this river market. Today the town is big enough to have a few good hotels and restaurants where you can find also European dishes.
Banlung is the capital of the province of Rattanakiri. And 'it surrounded by large rubber plantations for a 15-20 kilometers. Besides c 'is the forest, the real forest, where they still live, in the sides, large mammals like tigers, wild elephants, leopards, rhinos and even the kouprei, a rare cattle that exists only in Cambodia . In many places around the city are precious stones (garnet and zircon). Waterfalls and volcanic lakes break the views of the great forest, where you can participate safely in excursions elephant, walk or sit on a Jeep along with the national park ranger.
Very close to the city, so it can be used as a natural swimming pool, there is a volcanic lake exactly round with a depth of about 50 meters with the incredibly clear water. Together with the park ranger you can also take a trip on the Tonle River St., where they will meet prebuddiste populations, which still retain the absolutely unique traditions in the world: over the graves lay the wood carving depicting the dead and after the mourning period are of great parties in the forest.
In Banlung market, even today, they are sold bows and arrows above all, absolutely new, who have no claim to be a modern tourist souvenirs but show that forest peoples have not yet become farmers. The hotels are comfortable but unpretentious. The quality of food is much improved since the employees of companies who trade as rubber, timber and gems live here year round.
Stung Treng is the northernmost provincial capital of Cambodia. Situated a few kilometers from the border with Laos is a small town only important because it can be the basis for the 'catteratte excursion to the Mekong River. The catteratte are a couple of kilometers to 'inside of the Laotian territory, but can be visited without a visa Laotian. The show is great !!! The river passing through a rocky gorge falls of about 30 meters, in the middle of the forest. The 50 km from Stung Treng to the waterfalls you can also take boat. And this will be a memorable part of the trip!
