a day excursion Beang Melea, a temple nestled in the forest, and at the site of Koh Ker, archaeological complex that boasts the presence of a mysterious pyramid resembling other thousands of kilometers away.
At about 60 Km from Sian Rep is the largest complex of Beang Melea: a temple with the adjoining monastery nestled in the forest, which covers an area of over one square kilometer. Built in the same style and the same king who built Angkor Wat, it may even have been a prototype of the great temple. Being devoid of bas-reliefs, is thought to have been painted around is all 'inside and all' outside.
With the exception of Ta Phrom, this complex offers the best shots of vegetation and large trees integrated into the temple.
Drive another 60 miles you will arrive at Koh Ker, another complex of many temples and monasteries, the most important of which contains a large pyramid of seven steps that very perplexing to the similarity with other sites, in the same period, many thousands away of kilometers.
Koh Ker was the capital of the Khmer empire for twenty years, in the ninth century. Now all the ruins are immersed in the forest and, being a very short visit, they manage to convey that special charm that astonished visitors of a few decades ago.

DAY 01: SIEM REAP (L)
After breakfast meeting with the guide to your accommodation / hotel. Departure to the ancient monastery complex of Beang Melea built by Suyavaraman II in the tenth century, probably as a preparation for the construction of the great temple of Angkor Wat. Then transfer to Koh Ker. Packed lunch. Visit to the complex of temples and return to the city in the late afternoon.
